The Bowen Technique in Taos

The Bowen Technique is a manual therapy technique consisting of a series of gentle mobilizations of soft tissue that combine to help initiate the body’s healing response. This technique was developed by Tom Bowen in Australia and was shown to be very effective in 2-3 sessions when studied by the Australian National health system.

Proposed mechanisms of action suggest that the Bowen technique, through stimulation of Golgi Tendon Organs and muscle spindle fibers, decrease myofascial tension, improve circulation and ultimately down-regulates an over-active stress response to injury. This can allow the body to return to homeostasis, allowing a better healing response. This technique is application for many ailments and works on the whole body as well as specifically on particular joints or muscles.

This therapy complements traditional physical therapy and can be billed as a manual therapy technique, paid for by insurance. Terri Aronovitz is certified at an advanced level in Bowen Technique and has practiced it as a physical therapy modality since 2004.
