Osteoarthritis in Taos

Osteoarthritis, sometimes referred to as wear-and-tear arthritis, is a common condition affecting millions of Americans. It results when the protective cartilage on the ends of your bones wears down over time, causing pain and stiffness. Arthritis can affect any joint in your body, but is most common in the hands, neck, lower back, knees and hips. It usually comes on gradually, and is more common in people who are older, overweight, have past joint injuries, or work jobs that require repetitive joint stresses.

While there is no cure, there are treatments that can slow the progression, relieve pain, and improve joint function. One of our physical therapists can work with you to create an exercise regimen that will strengthen the muscles around the joint, increase range of motion, and reduce your pain. Aquatic therapy is also a valuable tool that can be very beneficial for patients suffering with Osteoarthritis pain.
